The Pavilion was one of the first properties to come up when Nainital was established as a Hill Resort by the British. From the very beginning, in the 19th Century, it was conceived of as a family-run establishment with generous parlors and bedrooms where holidaying British families could spend months at a time in the cool fresh air and sylvan surroundings. A separate new wing of Family Suites was built later. A third interesting wing consists of a fine independent wood cottage located right in the middle of trees.
Set amidst tall deodars at the base of the famous Cheena Peak, the hotel is very conveniently approachable by road and has plenty of its own parking space.
